Yet, with the arrival of 5G, the shift towards these more open technologies, standards, and interfaces brings with it a great deal of complexity. Where upgrade and reconfiguration cycles were typically measured in months – today, changes can take place multiple times a week. This in turn requires software that can manage that change and orchestrate the appropriate testing at the applicable stages.
With customers dependent on the reliability of mobile networks for mission critical use cases, congestion and even small periods of downtime can lead to significant financial penalties and longer lasting reputational damage. Especially as networks are constantly evolving and need to keep up with features whilst ensuring reliability.
This vision paper introduces a new model, called Integration Operations (IntOps), designed to help telecommunication providers undergoing the transition to 5G. The paper offers both strategic and tactical insights around adoption of IntOps, the importance of continuous testing and why both are vital to fully realizing the potential of 5G. A ten-step process for onboarding IntOps is presented, along with proof-points around the benefits supported by expert input from Deutsche Telekom and Spirent.
